Answer This Question

A: Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. We do not recommend the use of our Touch ‘n Foam Pro System two-component foam products (or any other foam product) in closed cavity/void filling (injection) applications, as the expansion force of the foam may result in damage to the assembly. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Q:What is the R value at 4" thick? Can it be applied 6" thick?

    Answer This Question

A: Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam Professional Low GWP Foam Kit 200. The R-Value is 6.2 per inch of cured foam. DAP Touch ‘n Foam Professional Low GWP Spray Foam is only recommended for application at a maximum depth of 1" per pass/layer and requires sufficient time between layer to permit curing and cooling. The maximum permitted application depth/thickness for low pressure spray polyurethane foams is 2" (building code/regulation and application dependent). Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Q:Is this product used to lift up and level concrete slab

      by|Mar 21, 2024

      1 Answer

      Answer This Question

A: Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. The TNFP System 200/600 Low GWP Kits deliver a Low-Pressure Medium Density Foam. These formulas are not able to be used for "mud-jacking" (slab lifting) applications. DAP does not currently offer a one or two component spray polyurethane foam for this type of specialized application. This type of application requires the use of more specialized products, that are injected under high pressure. Should you have additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Why not to get spray foam insulation? ›

              It's Too Airtight

This, however, can lead to a dangerous level of airtightness in many cases. The more airtight a home is, the better its ventilation system needs to be. Lack of proper ventilation can lead to superheating, carbon monoxide poisoning, and roof damage if spray foam insulation is used in the attic.

Where not to use spray foam insulation? ›

Directly against electrical wiring or fixtures: Spray foam insulation should not be applied directly against electrical wiring, fixtures, or recessed lighting unless they are rated for contact with insulation. Contact with insulation can cause overheating and pose a fire hazard.

What are the problems with spray foam loft insulation? ›

Potential problems with spray foam insulation
              • reduce air circulation and ventilation within a roof space.
              • lead to dampness and condensation on the underside of a roof because it forms an air barrier and stops moisture from escaping.
              • place timber-framed roofs at risk of decay.

Can I sleep in my house after spray foam insulation? ›

Spray foam is safe after a minimum of 24 hours. In some cases, the spray foam insulation company may ask the homeowner to stay out of the house for 48 hours just to be sure no one inhales any of the off-gas. After the curing process is complete, homeowners do not need to worry about inhaling any chemicals.

Is it safe to be home during spray foam insulation? ›

Off-gassing is a byproduct of the chemical reaction that creates spray foam. Off-gassing is a normal byproduct, but it is toxic to inhale. The off-gassing byproduct is why contractors wear respirators while applying spray foam. Residents and pets are required to vacate the premises for their safety.

Why can't you sell a house with spray foam insulation? ›

Many contractors and homeowners believe that houses need to breathe, and the concern that a house may be made too airtight causes these buyers to avoid spray foam insulation. If these buyers learn that the insulation is spray foam, they may avoid bidding altogether.

What are the negatives to spray foam insulation? ›

One of the most pressing disadvantages is the health concerns associated with the improper application of spray foam. It's composed of a mixture of chemicals that can potentially be harmful. In particular, the application process can release airborne chemicals that may cause respiratory problems.

Can mold grow behind spray foam insulation? ›

Now, most premium spray foam insulation on the market will not sustain mold growth - there's no food source in the actual foam for the mold to grow on.

When not to use expanding foam? ›

              AROUND ELECTRICAL OUTLETS OR BOXES

Most critically, the spray foam contains flammable chemicals that could spark a fire when exposed to electrical parts. Expanding insulation should not be used in or around these parts or other electrical wiring—it's not worth the safety risk.

Can bugs get through spray foam insulation? ›

No insulation product can address bugs using pipes, but choosing the right insulation can stop bugs from crawling through walls, ceilings, and floors. With spray foam insulation's airtight seal, tiny entry points are blocked for these insects.

Is spray foaming your attic a good idea? ›

Spray foam is an ideal choice for insulating the floor of the attic because it is air impermeable and a powerful insulator. This will keep conditioned air in the living area of the home, and the warm or cool air in the attic from entering the home where it can cause condensation, mold and other problems.

What is the downfall of spray foam insulation? ›

Spray foam insulation can occasionally contract.

However, there is a chance that the insulation in this product will start to shrink over time, which will lessen its insulating capabilities.

What are the disadvantages of spray foam roof? ›

Here are the 7 problems spray foam roofs have:
              • Limited installation windows.
              • Finding a contractor that knows how to correctly apply the foam.
              • Overspray potential.
              • Upfront costs.
              • Maintenance is recommended.
              • Impact resistance.
              • Not performing a recoat.

How many years does spray foam insulation last? ›

Spray foam insulation can last anywhere from 80 years to 100 years, if it is properly applied. For most people, that could be the life of your home. They say that nothing lasts forever. “They” have obviously never hired certified Sunlight Contractors to install spray foam insulation in their home or building.

How do you prepare walls for spray foam insulation? ›

Walls need to be framed; electrical and all other wiring should be installed prior to spray foam installation. All wall areas need to be clear so access can be granted for the spray foam installation. All valuables should be masked and or covered with plastic.

How long do you have to leave your house after spray foam insulation? ›

Homeowners should wait at least 24 hours or until the foam is fully cured and off-gassing stops. The EPA suggests keeping homes well-ventilated during curing, which takes 12-24 hours. This lowers VOC levels and improves air quality before going back inside.

Should you wrap your house before or after foam insulation? ›

If you are installing “innie” windows, your housewrap should go under the foam.

Do you do electrical before spray foam insulation? ›

Closed-cell spray foam is rigid and dense so it provides better protection where electrical wirings are. Applying spray foam after running electrical is the most common and easiest way we get requested.
