SJR
The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.

Citations per document
This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal. The chart shows the evolution of the average number of times documents published in a journal in the past two, three and four years have been cited in the current year. The two years line is equivalent to journal impact factor ™ (Thomson Reuters) metric.

Metrics based on Scopus® data as of April 2023
As an expert in the field of scientific journal metrics, I have extensive knowledge of various indicators used to assess the impact and influence of academic journals. One such metric is the SJR (SCImago Journal Rank), a size-independent prestige indicator that evaluates journals based on their 'average prestige per article'. The SJR takes into account both the number of citations received by a journal and the prestige of the journals from which these citations originate. This ensures a more nuanced understanding of a journal's scientific influence.
Now, let's delve into the key concepts and information presented in the provided article:
-
SJR (SCImago Journal Rank):
- SJR is a size-independent metric that ranks journals based on their 'average prestige per article.'
- It considers both the number of citations received by a journal and the prestige of the journals providing these citations.
- It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, indicating how central it is to the global scientific discussion.
-
Total Documents:
- Evolution of the number of published documents over the years, including both citable and non-citable documents.
-
Citations per Document:
- An indicator that counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal, divided by the total number of documents published in that journal.
- The chart shows the evolution of the average number of citations over two, three, and four years.
-
Total Cites and Self-Cites:
- Evolution of the total number of citations received by a journal's published documents and self-citations over the past three years.
-
External Cites per Document:
- Evolution of the number of total citations per document and external citations per document (excluding self-citations).
- External citations are calculated by subtracting self-citations from the total number of citations.
-
% International Collaboration:
- The ratio of a journal's documents signed by researchers from more than one country, reflecting international collaboration over the years.
-
Citable and Non-Citable Documents:
- The ratio of a journal's articles considered citable (research articles, conference papers, and reviews) versus non-citable documents.
-
Cited and Uncited Documents:
- Ratio of a journal's items, grouped in three-year windows, that have been cited at least once versus those not cited during the following year.
This information provides a comprehensive overview of the metrics and trends associated with the scientific impact and collaboration of the journals mentioned in the article. If you have specific questions or need further clarification on any of these concepts, feel free to ask.
