  3. #2 Best Public Elementary Schools in North CarolinaMetrolina Regional Scholars AcademyCharlotte, NC·Public School·K-8·Rating 3.63 out of 5 16 reviewsParent: Having been at the school since its inception and assisting in many ways from start-up fundraising, marketing, assisting in the classroom and coaching, I can tell you that the Scholars’ Academy is a gifted school like no other. With my three children attending (one having had AWEFUL experiences in public school before being identified as twice gifted), they were able to freely explore their intellectual abilities and create solid lifelong friendships. All organizations have growing pains and our school may not be perfect for your student… that is an opportunity for the parent to find the right place where their student flourishes! The Scholars’ Academy lets kids be kids, have fun and learn at their speed. Being at SA is like a trip to the United Nations of Children. Our diversity is broad. Moving into high school is always an adjustment, but for 9 years my children were able to feel good in their skin and have fun learning!... The high school allows students to customize their schedule to fit their academic level. There’s a large variety of AP, Honors, and CP classes that allow for a range of difficulty. The faculty and administrators are AMAZING and they genuinely care for the students. Each week, they have meetings where they discuss how they can better serve the students and aid in their well being (changing deadlines, etc). They act as true Christian mentors. My experience hasn’t always been great at CDS, as I did face bullying from other students. However, teenagers will be teenagers whether they’re in a Christian environment or not. Its small size allows for a fun community but it can feel suffocating at times bc everyone knows your business. It’s a spirited school and provides a high school experience unlike any other. If you are looking for a community that aids in your faith and academics, I highly recommend CDS!!!... The best part about my experience is the ability to form a close friend group and all the different opportunities Lake Norman Charter gives the students to get involved in our schools community. The teachers and staff genuinely care about my children and and have fostered not just their academic growth, but also spiritual and emotional development. There are lots of opportunities for the children to get involved with extracurricular activities. A few of our babysitters have graduated from Carmel christian and we've also been impressed with the type of student that Carmel graduates. Hickory Grove provides an education for students that is founded on a biblical worldview of academic disciplines, cultural issues, and personal lifestyle. This is evident in their motto for students to be committed, connected, balanced, and wise. The institution provides great safety for students by providing access to resource officers and implementing a security system that only allows entrance through one door. Teachers are intentional with students to help them learn course material and keep their lives balanced outside of school. Moreover, the school is not limited to academic success as it offers a wide array of high quality extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and leadership opportunities. Of course being in elementary school your going to run across other students who you don't really get along with, but other than that everything was fine. Now, everyone has a different experience and from what I have heard the school has changed drastically. Don't base your decision off of my words though because, like I said, things have changed. They got a new principle, a lot of new teachers, it may not be the same experience for you (or your child) as it was for me. The Greyfriars faculty are always challenging you to do your best and encourage you to pursue academic success. Lastly, the students are incredibly supportive and always push you to step outside your comfort zone. The students are responsible, stepping up in leadership, and making wise decisions when socializing. The students support each other in their endeavors, attending their friend's sports events and reaching out to help each other when needed. The middle college program allows me to have a very flexible schedule and be more in control of my everyday school life. I can schedule my classes whenever I want which has allowed me to be able to maintain a part-time job. I also like that I can graduate with an associate's degree with the partnered community college, saving me up to $10,000 when I go to university. Since this is a relatively small school, I think it has helped me connect to the teachers more than a regular high school because they genuinely feel more attentive and always have your best interest in mind. However, with it being a small school, there is not a lot of variety in terms of clubs or "campus life" because every student has a different schedule so everyone is not on campus at the same time. Communication is also difficult because students usually have to be on campus in order to be informed of school events....
