Ortensia is an anthropomorphic cat who first appeared in the 1927 short film The Banker's Daughter as the love interest of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Typically seen wearing a simple skirt and a miniature flower hat, Ortensia is depicted as the daughter of wealthy banker J. P. Whiskers.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was Walt Disney's first break-out cartoon star. Walt unfortunately discovered on a trip to New York to renew his contract for Oswald that the character was the property of Universal. He returned to Hollywood devastated and in need of a new character that he would completely own.

"Oswald is such a plucky scamp. We wanted to bring Oswald back, and in the short, he literally returns to his original home, the movie screen,” animator Eric Goldberg, who directed the short film, said in a statement.

Finally, in 2006, the Walt Disney Company reacquired Oswald as part of an assets exchange with Universal. After almost 70 years, Oswald was finally home at Disney, taking his place alongside Mickey and the rest of the iconic Disney characters.

Oswald is a boy's name of British heritage that symbolizes "divine power." It is a combination of the Old English words os and weald, meaning "God" and "power," respectively.

Each episode follows the daily experiences of an anthropomorphic blue octopus named Oswald, accompanied by his pet hot dog Weenie, and their life in the cheerful and whimsically-designed community of Big City.
