Sweet yet tart, blackberries hold their own in a wide range of recipes. Whether baked in cakes, pies, muffins, or buckles, tossed into salads or smoothies, or turned into jam, they're simply delicious. We're sharing our favorite blackberry recipes to help you make the most of this summer fruit.
Blackberries are at their best from June to September. Since berries don't ripen once plucked, choose ready-to-eat ones; they should be bright and aromatic. Avoid packages with juice showing or with bruised or moldy fruit.
Once you bring them home, refrigerate the blackberries in their original container and use them within a few days. Blackberries are sensitive to moisture—so it's important that you do not store them in plastic bags. That means you'll also want towash them just before use.
