Grilled Pork Loin

Whenever you’re looking for that perfect roast for Sunday dinner, look no further than this grilled pork loin. It’s a nice, big cut of meat that will easily feed the entire family (and maybe even have leftovers the next day!). Pork loin is extremely lean and full of flavor, making it an amazing cut of meat to cook on a gas or charcoal grill. If you’re looking for the smoked version of this meat, check out my post for Smoked Pork Loin.

Pork is a great vehicle for whatever flavors you want to add to it, and this pork loin is no exception. The pork is not super fatty, so the seasoning and the char from the grill add a much-needed punch of flavor.

Quick reminder that pork loin and pork tenderloin are not the same thing. This pork loin is a center cut loin chop cut from tissue along the upper side of the rib cage vs. the tenderloin that is cut from the muscle that runs through the central spine of the pig. Pork loin is the cut of meat that can be further broken down into pork chops. So if you’re a pork chop fan, this pork loin recipe is for you!

Grilled Pork Loin Roast

This recipe for grilled pork loin roast is a keeper. Not only does this recipe use my Award Winning Chicken Seasoning, but the added flavor from the grill can be considered an added flavor by itself. The chicken seasoning is an amazing blend of garlic, onion, rosemary, and thyme to give the pork a very traditional roast flavor.

My Chicken Seasoning is available for purchase from Patio Provisions, but if you don’t have any on hand, you can also make your own Lemon Herb Chicken Seasoning from my recipe on this site. It also combines garlic, onion, and a handful of dried herbs to give your pork lots of good flavor. Don’t be fooled by the name, this chicken seasoning tastes great on pork too!

It won’t take long to prep your roast for grilling. In fact, you only need to dedicate a few minutes to getting it ready to go on the grill. Begin by trimming any excess silverskin on the pork loin. Next, drizzle the outside of the roast with olive oil and season well with the Chicken Seasoning.

How to Grill a Pork Loin

Once prepped and seasoned, this pork loin is a breeze to grill. All you have to do is follow these three steps and you’re well on your way to enjoying a perfect pork loin roast.

  1. Fire up the grill! Preheat your grill to 350 degrees F for two-zone cooking. Two-zone cooking will have one direct heat side of the grill and one indirect heat side of the grill.
  2. Grill the pork loin. Place your trimmed and seasoned roast directly on the grill grates on the indirect heat side of the grill. Close the lid on the grill, and cook for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Remove the pork loin from the grill when it has reached an internal temperature of 145 degrees F. Make sure to insert your thermometer in the thickest part of the pork loin in the center of the meat to get an accurate reading.
  3. Rest before serving. This pork loin will be hot once it comes off the grill. Allow the meat to rest for around 15 minutes before slicing and serving to your family or guests.

How Long to Grill a Pork Loin

It takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to fully grill a 2-3 pound pork loin. For this recipe, the grill is preheated to 350 degrees F. With the grill running consistently at this temperature, the pork loin is cooked over indirect heat until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.

Always remember to cook to temperature and not to time with meat. Keep an instant read meat thermometer handy and take the temperature periodically throughout the cook. Adjust cook time as needed, and keep in mind that smaller or larger roasts will have different cook times as well.

CG: Roasting is the most natural way to cook a pork loin, and it's the easiest and the quickest to get into the oven. I like to sear the outside and then roast it, or you can just roast it as is. The indirect method of cooking preserves pork loin's inherent juiciness and tenderness.
